The chairman of the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS), Mayor of Sabac, Nebojsa Zelenovic said that the photos published on little known Embargo pro-regime web portal, showing his departure to German Embassy for a meeting were a direct proof that he was illegally followed and tapped at the order of the regime.

Zelenovic emphasized in the report that the web portal on which the photos were published was “an asset of the regime’s propaganda under direct control of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic”. He asked Serbian President what would be the problem if he had a meeting in the German Embassy and whether German Chancellor Angela Merkel was not Vucic’s friend anymore, as he used to brag until recently. “You have been deceiving the public for years that German Toennies company would invest billions of Euros in pig breeding in Serbia that would be used to feed half of the world. You deceived the public that the German Mercedes would produce buses, first at FAP in Priboj, and then, out of nowhere, you added them to Ikarbus in Belgrade”, Zelenovic stated.

In an open letter to Vucic, Zelenovic also said that until a few weeks ago, Serbian President was deceiving the public that German Volkswagen would open a factory in Serbia and that Serbia would become one of the largest car producers in Europe. “I went to a meeting with the German partners to discuss, among other things, the poor state of democracy in Serbia. Did you record and photograph this conversation also, mister President”, Zelenovic asked. “Once again I point out for you that the misuse of security services and state institutions in the battle against political opponents is very dangerous because it is not only a heavy crime, but it could also jeopardize the foundations of democratic order and introduces the country into a dangerous crisis and conflicts of unseen volume. You will be personally responsible if you cause a misfortune in Serbia out of fear of losing the power”, Zelenovic said to Serbian President.

Zelenovic claimed that he had been followed and tapped since September 2018, including every conversation, meeting, movement of representatives of one part of the opposition and that his safety was in danger. He added that the regime was completely revealing its true nature and showing that they ruled with the darkest methods of police state in which anyone with a different opinion was their enemy and a legitimate target.

Zelenovic stated that the photos of his departure to German Embassy were clearly made from the great height and published on Embargo web portal “with extremely inappropriate comments that damage the relations between the two countries”. “This is a clear and unambiguous proof that I was illegally followed and tapped by the regime, but also that the allegations of the leaders of Alliance for Serbia that we were under a constant surveillance of security services were completely true”.

Embargo: “Zelenovic went to the embassy for instructions”: Together with the photos of the opposition leader Zelenovic crossing the street somewhere in Belgrade, close to the German Embassy, a pro-regime Embargo web portal also published a text in which they accused Zelenovic of going there in order to get “instructions to work against his own state”. “Zelenovic visited the German Embassy incognito, in order to avoid being noticed, he arrived to the embassy at 11:30h and stayed there for 45 minutes”, the foolish text at Embargo web portal stated. “Due to everyday protests held in Sabac, it is no wonder that Zelenovic has been visiting the German Embassy, because immediately after that he has published an announcement against the President of his own country. Obviously, Zelenovic did not know how to put it together, so he went to the embassy to pick it up from someone else”, it was concluded in the text that accompanied the photos taken most probably with the aid of a drone.

The chairman of Alliance for Serbia (SzS) Nebojsa Zelenovic said on Friday that it was unheard of anywhere in the world, except in Serbia, that the President of a state was reading the documents of security services labeled as state secret on a tabloid TV station.

“Vucic once again proved that by breaching the Constitution and laws, he was misusing the whole security department every day in order to preserve his non-democratic rule”, Zelenovic emphasized.

He added that the public should ask what would Vucic be prepared if he would leave the power. “Vucic’s manipulation with state secrets, following and tapping, is calculated to mask following and tapping of the opposition leaders, but also his close associates, for which he has been accused by his political father Vojislav Seselj. There is no and cannot be a democratic and decent state in which security services are not taking care of security of the country, but are used as an instrument for political conflicts”, the chairman of SzS Nebojsa Zelenovic concluded.

"Do you know what democracy is? Do you know what democracy means? Do you know the basic tenets of democracy?,” the leader of the opposition Together for Serbia (ZZS) party Nebojsa Zelenovic said in an open letter to European Union representatives and the organizers of the round table for the authorities and opposition on election conditions.

The ZZS is part of the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) and Zelenovic is one of the few opposition mayors in the country. Zelenovic asked why the EU representatives are keeping quiet about the statement by Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic that the talks between the authorities and opposition are proof of democracy. “That meeting would never have happened if democracy existed in Serbia,” Zelenovic wrote. “The Internal Affairs Minister, proud owner of two falsified diplomas (basic studies and doctorate), called this meeting proof of democracy. You as organizers of the meeting are saying nothing about his statement. EU representatives are keeping quiet about this statement,” Zelenovic wrote.

“Do you have your own democracies which do not belong to us in Serbia? Do you know that your silence provides an alibi for the downfall of a society, a country, all of its citizens, remaining mute about the fact that this is called democracy? It is completely clear to us that this meeting was organized as the consequence of the announcement of a possible boycott of the pyramidal criminal organization which the regime calls elections. Those are not elections. This is not democracy,” Zelenovic wrote.

He said that the opposition representatives who took part in the meeting respected the principle of silence. “But that does not mean that we will remain mute to your silence. We ask you again: do you know what democracy is? We can’t debate over the truth,” he wrote.

“We have been loosing democracy every day in Serbia since 2012. For the eighth year in a row. We know that we don’t have it any longer and we know we want it back. We are not better or worse than the rest of Europe. We are no less deserving of living like the normal world,” Zelenovic wrote.

“In Serbia, when you voice criticism of the Aleksandar Vucic regime, you will wake up to accusations that you are a rapist, maniac, bully, thief, fascist, traitor because you will be destroyed overnight in an orchestrated effort by Vucic’s media. Is that democracy?,” Zelenovic asked in his open letter.

A group of approximately two dozens of younger right-wingers attempted to prevent a rally organized on Sunday evening in front of Sabac Theater, immediately before the opening of the event called Zone of New Optimism – Caricatures against Dictatorship.

The gathered youths shouted and insulted the participants of the rally, but there were no larger incidents. They chanted “Ustashas”, “Aca the Serb” and “Kosovo is the Heart of Serbia” and they also wore a poster with the image of Sabac Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic, to whom they chanted “Zabela – Zeleni” [Prison for Zelenovic]. They also carried a poster with the image of Aleksandra Jankovic Aranitovic, who was arrested on Friday for the alleged insulting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

The rally was, however, held with a 30-minute delay and famous cartoonists Dusan Petricic and Predrag Koraksic a.k.a. Corax took part in it, but also professors Srbijanka Turajlic and Ognjen Radonjic and journalists Nedim Sejdinovic and Snezana Congradin.

Although leaders of the real opposition (parties that do not cooperate with the Serbian Progressive Party – SNS – of Aleksandar Vucic) conduct public or not so public debates on a daily basis regarding whether or not to return in the Parliament, their consent about the next election is much greater: almost all of them say that elections should be boycotted if related conditions are unequal.

“Without serious dialogue between the opposition and government that would ensure free elections, we would slide towards a serious conflict”, mayor of Sabac and president of party Together for Serbia Nebojsa Zelenovic declared. Vucic is the creator of a destructive atmosphere. Short of having free elections, I believe there would be none. We are sliding towards general civil disobedience”, Zelenovic told daily Danas.

Democratic Party (DS) president Zoran Lutovac has a similar opinion. He says that the boycott will be explained to citizens much more easily than taking part in elections that aren’t free and fair. “There can be not election if media aren’t free, if voters are being blackmailed and manipulated, if irregularities are not sanctioned. The political consequences of giving legitimacy to constrained and dishonest elections held in media blackout would be disastrous for our society and citizens. The political consequences of the boycott will depend on the determination and perseverance of citizens to join forces in fighting for something that belongs to us – free elections and a normal society, Lutovac said.
