President of Together for Serbia (ZZS), Sabac mayor and copresident of the United Democratic Party (UDS) Nebojsa Zelenovic conveyed on Wednesday, in the name of the strongest opposition block, the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) the message to European MPs who are currently attempting to broker the talks on election terms.

„The protesting opposition and citizens have only one demand: that political life in Serbia be the same as in democratic countries. Our message to European MPs is friendly, sincere and based on basic European values. We have no other wish and desire except to ensure freedom and respect of laws in Serbia, and to allow different opinions to be heard. We demand nothing more than that, but we won’t settle for less than that either”, Zelenovic said.

“During seven years of authoritarian rule, Vucic has decomposed and humiliated all institutions. He is at the same time prime minister, is in charge of all ministries, he is the Belgrade mayor, the supreme judge and prosecutor, chief editor of almost all media, and these past few days seems to have a penchant for becoming the Patriarch. “The regime pushes the whole country into a crisis that will escalate with unforeseeable consequences”, Zelenovic concluded.

Leader of Together for Serbia (ZzS), member of the opposition bloc Alliance for Serbia (SzS), Nebojsa Zelenovic said on Tuesday in Bogatic that the boycott campaign was already yielding results and that internationalization was proof that in Serbia there are no honest elections.

“The democratic public in Serbia has awakened, resistance is spreading and the European Parliament has accepted the fact that Serbia is a black spot in Europe in which there is no freedom of opinion and democracy. “Therefore their representatives are coming to Belgrade. We want a dialogue with the EU but with Vucic’s regime there is not and there will be no kind of agreement on the conditions for fair elections and it is clear to all that the announced illegitimate elections will have as a consequence illegitimate authorities which will not have the capacity to resolve problems.” – said Zelenovic during talks with the citizens of Bogatic.

“Everyone is aware that such a situation is unsustainable, and the longer the election crisis lasts, which will sooner or later end in the defeat of the authorities at real and honest elections, the consequences will be more dire. Both the authorities and the international community should be aware of this.” – Zelenovic underlined.

The leaders of the strongest opposition bloc, the Alliance for Serbia (SzS), on Sunday launched the campaign for boycotting the upcoming (spring) regular parliamentary and local elections, in several large cities in Serbia, it was confirmed at the joint SzS press center.

President of the Together for Serbia (ZZS) party and one of the founders of the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) Nebojsa Zelenovic, started the election boycott campaign on Sunday by meeting with the citizens of Loznica, and on that occasion stated that the SzS is not willing to take part in any negotiations with the government about elections that will be held in the spring of 2020, because it is too late for such negotiations.

“I support the engagement of the European Parliament and we are prepared to speak with EU representatives about the situation in Serbia, as well as the implementation of the demands by the expert team of the civic protest for establishing conditions for democratic elections, which would be implemented for a minimum of nine months before honest and fair elections are held,” Zelenovic said. “Today, with the citizens, we are starting a boycott campaign during which all talks with the incumbent government, which is consciously pushing this government deeper into crisis, are absolutely out of the question,” Zelenovic pointed out.

“The undermining by the regime media cannot prevent the wave of great social movement, which will consist not only of the opposition parties, but also students, labor union, professional associations and all freethinking citizens. We all have the same goal: to together fight for a decent country where we will replaced the government through fair elections. And those are not the fake elections that the government has announced for the spring of 2020,” Zelenovic concluded.

The measures for improving the elections process adopted by the government are mere trifles which have not even touched the surface of this problem, said the leader of the opposition party Together for Serbia Nebojsa Zelenovic on Monday.

During a TV duel with the official of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Vladimir Orlic on Radio Television Vojvodina, Zelenovic said that in these measures there was no mention of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM), the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) and the Anti-Corruption Agency – institutions which the opposition perceived as been crucial problematic points.

Speaking of the negotiations between the authorities and the opposition which should be carried out with the intermediary of the European Union, and which were proposed by the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament David McAllister, he said that the opposition bloc Alliance for Serbia, of which Together for Serbia is a member, would not take part in them.

Zelenovic said that the foreign representatives were prepared to “turn a blind eye to the violation of democracy and the violation of human rights”, since they are expecting of President Aleksandar Vucic to resolve the matter of Kosovo in accordance with their wishes.

The set of measures that the government is introducing to improve election conditions was termed meaningless by the United Democratic Party, adding that this is a way to buy time before elections are called "since the ruling party is showing its understanding of elections every day in local communities”.

The Democratic Party (DS) cited the example of the Merosina municipality where, it said, political crimes rules. It said the Council of Europe would be informed. DS leader Zoran Lutovac said at a news conference that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has started altering the will of the voters in Vracar [a Belgrade municipality] and when the opposite happened in Merosina, the authorities imposed temporary measures which is a sign that the elections should be boycotted.

DS local council member in Merosina Tanja Miladinovic said that a new majority has been formed there by the DS, Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and two citizens’ groups but that the deposed local assembly president refused to accept the decision and the government imposed temporary measures for no valid legal reason on August 8 to make sure that the SNS does not loose power there.

Together for Serbia party leader Nebojsa Zelenovic said that this is more proof that the ruling party does not have the will to create an atmosphere for free elections and asked the authorities “which chapter that falls under in Serbia’s accession to the European Union”. The United Democratic Party will not take part in local elections like that, the news conference was told. Asked if he expected campaigning by officials to end, Zelenovic said that he is convinced that this will get stronger than before.

The leaders of the United Democratic Party said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spent five hourse on all TV stations opening a new section of a highway on the day that representatives of the authorities and opposition discussed campaigns by officials.
