The Serbian authorities are “holding as hostages” 230,000 people whom they have employed part-time in government services, said the leader of Together for Serbia Nebojsa Zelenovic on Tuesday.

“How can we have any kind of [free and fair] elections when 230,000 families are living as humiliated and blackmailed subjects to the regime, with an obvious fear for their existence? These people, every six months, expect the verdict of the party commissioners of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of whether their work contracts will be extended for another six months”, said Zelenovic, who is also Sabac Mayor, during his visit to Kikinda, province of Vojvodina.

Leaders and activists of parties gathered in the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) opposition bloc on Monday continued their campaign to advocate for a boycott of parliamentary elections next spring, pointing to the complete media monopoly of the governing Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

The authorities hold the citizens and even public opinion “in a state of hypnosis, because they are denied basic information about the real state of the country, as if we were living in the Middle Ages,” Together for Serbia party leader Nebojsa Zelenovic said during a visit to the village of Dublje, municipality of Bogatic, western part of the country. “Aleksandar Vucic has appeared on the country-wide TV stations 793 times a month, or 26.4 times a day, and in the same period, none of the opposition leaders appeared in these media at all,” according to Zelenovic, who is also the mayor of Sabac.

The leader of Together for Serbia (ZZS) and a co-leader of United Democratic Party (UDS) Nebojsa Zelenovic said in Valjevo, as a part of the elections boycott campaign, that MEPs and OSCE had an opportunity to realize that there were no elementary conditions for a normal political life in Serbia, let alone for a dialogue that would lead to fair elections.

“The regime, before the eyes of international representatives, unsuccessfully attempted to feign the dialogue with a goal to break the unity of the opposition and coax at least one relevant opposition party to take part in false elections, but in the past two days they have realized that this would not happen."

President of Together for Serbia (ZZS), Sabac mayor and copresident of the United Democratic Party (UDS) Nebojsa Zelenovic conveyed on Wednesday, in the name of the strongest opposition block, the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) the message to European MPs who are currently attempting to broker the talks on election terms.

„The protesting opposition and citizens have only one demand: that political life in Serbia be the same as in democratic countries. Our message to European MPs is friendly, sincere and based on basic European values. We have no other wish and desire except to ensure freedom and respect of laws in Serbia, and to allow different opinions to be heard. We demand nothing more than that, but we won’t settle for less than that either”, Zelenovic said.

“During seven years of authoritarian rule, Vucic has decomposed and humiliated all institutions. He is at the same time prime minister, is in charge of all ministries, he is the Belgrade mayor, the supreme judge and prosecutor, chief editor of almost all media, and these past few days seems to have a penchant for becoming the Patriarch. “The regime pushes the whole country into a crisis that will escalate with unforeseeable consequences”, Zelenovic concluded.

Leader of Together for Serbia (ZzS), member of the opposition bloc Alliance for Serbia (SzS), Nebojsa Zelenovic said on Tuesday in Bogatic that the boycott campaign was already yielding results and that internationalization was proof that in Serbia there are no honest elections.

“The democratic public in Serbia has awakened, resistance is spreading and the European Parliament has accepted the fact that Serbia is a black spot in Europe in which there is no freedom of opinion and democracy. “Therefore their representatives are coming to Belgrade. We want a dialogue with the EU but with Vucic’s regime there is not and there will be no kind of agreement on the conditions for fair elections and it is clear to all that the announced illegitimate elections will have as a consequence illegitimate authorities which will not have the capacity to resolve problems.” – said Zelenovic during talks with the citizens of Bogatic.

“Everyone is aware that such a situation is unsustainable, and the longer the election crisis lasts, which will sooner or later end in the defeat of the authorities at real and honest elections, the consequences will be more dire. Both the authorities and the international community should be aware of this.” – Zelenovic underlined.
